Marette Gai Hennessy 1961-2025

Greatly Loved and Greatly Missed

2 Timothy 4:7-8

“Marette finished the course, she kept the faith and there is reserved for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to her on that day.”

 Phil Plowman

MVA Board Chairman

It was with great sadness and heavy hearts we said goodbye on the 8th of July 2025 to our dear friend and colleague Marette Hennessy.

Marette was an integral part of the MVA team for over 25 years working with four MVA directors in a number of rolls during that period including managing MVA’s motor bike ministry throughout South East Asia and the South Pacific. She excelled in this role and loved working with our awesome field staff (Who loved her)

In the early days of her involvement with MVA Marette would bring her three boys into the office to help put together our Promo and Fund-raising mail outs. Also, her eldest son, Jesse, went on his first mission trip to Fiji with MVA and met his future wife on that trip. He then came with me on many mission trips to Fiji, Vanuatu and Thailand. After their marriage Jesse and his new wife led mission teams for MVA to work in Fiji.

This was all a reflection of the passion, dedication, and commitment Marette had for missions and the work of MVA. She was also involved in mission teams working in Thailand and Indonesia as well as attending a number of our Asia Pacific Conferences.

Only God knows how many people Marette has influenced with the Gospel through her life of love, compassion and the commitment she had for serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

All through this time Marette was a single mum raising up and home schooling 3 lively boys. Truly an amazing lady who loved Jesus and her family always seeking to serve the people of the Asia Pacific region through the ministry of MVA. On top of all this Marette was also a dedicated Foster Carer who poured out her love onto many troubled children over the years.

Marette will be greatly missed by us all

Lynda Serpell

MVA General Manager

When I think of Marette, I think of someone who was a very loving person. She loved her God with all her heart, mind and strength and greatly loved her family. She also loved all our national leaders and would do anything she could to help them. Marette was also very generous, always wanting to look after everyone who had a need. She would readily swing into action when needed helping to find a solution to your problem. Our country directors are going to miss her greatly because she helped them so much.

As for all the adventures Marette and I had together in South East Asia and Australia, well I could go on for hours about those.

Marette loved working with MVA and all we do in the Asia Pacific Region and was fiercely committed to our vision. Her commitment is evident when you realise Marette worked with MVA for over 25 years. During that time, she worked for four Australian directors and experienced lots of changes. Marette had many roles at MVA including being responsible for all MVA’s promotions including our website and in 2019 she took over MVA’s motorbike ministry. Marette loved helping the pastors receive a motorbike that would enable them go further and reach more people in more remote areas. In Asia, and the Pacific there are now many pastors who have transport because of Marette. She cared deeply for these pastors, prayed for them and stayed in contact with them. If she heard any of the pastors were in need, she’d donate without thinking twice.

I loved her through the happy times and the sad times, she was a special friend

John Williams

MVA Retired Director

Of all the tasks that Marette faithfully carried out within MVA, it was the bike application and distribution ministry that was her most powerful and effective. In this role she had found her niche. She responded to each application as Jesus would have, with love and compassion taking a personal interest in each applicant. She made it her role to treat each application whether within MV ASEAN or outside as family, and would quickly make it her task to develop relationships with each applicant.

She told me that she loved reading the personal testimonies of each applicant as she saw it as faith building. She also told me she saw it as a means to broaden the scope of MVA into other locations and with other churches we could partner with. She will be sorely missed as she left big shoes to fill

Well done good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your reward

The Tragedy of Myanmar

Please help the people of Myanmar!

There is a desperate cry for help going out from the people of Myanmar as they struggle to come to grips with the horrific devastation and suffering caused by the 7.7 earthquake that rocked their countyr on the 28th March.

We have been in touch with our key leaders in Myanmar and they are saying the best way to help them at this stage is to send relief funds as they are still able to obtain some food and water and other items so desperately needed, but the cost is very high.

Missionary Ventures Australia is able to send all donated funds directly to our key leaders in Myanmar making sure it gets to the people who need it most. !00% of donations received by MVA will be sent directly to Myanmar and donor receipts will be set out.

There are many people praying that this disaster will see an end to the rule of terror by the despotic brutal military junta who are hell bent on the genocide of many people groups in Myanmar. Even in the midst of this tragedy and suffering they continue to send out planes to bomb their people.  They are also stopping journalists from entering the country as they don’t want the truth of what has been happening in Myanmar to get out.

We pray that the world leaders will see the truth of what has been happening in Myanmar for many years and stop turning a blind eye to it. We are praying that when the dust settles, and the emergency is over the people of Myanmar will be able to shout out…  Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last.

It would be a privilege for Missionary Ventures Australia to pass on your generous donation to our key leaders on the ground in Myanmar making sure the full amount gets to where it will be the most help. We will also keep our donors updated with the ongoing situation as best as we can.

Please mark your donation MYR
